Eugenia napiformis

General Information

Mid-canopy tree up to 39 m tall and 71(to 100) cm dbh. Stipules absent. Leaves opposite, simple, penni-veined, venation inconspicuous, secondary veins placed close together, glabrous. Flowers ca. 9 mm diameter, white-pinkish, with protruding stamens, flowers in panicles. Fruits ca. 11 mm long, green-white-reddish, fleshy berries.

Natively found in undisturbed mixed dipterocarp and sub-montane forests up to 1800 m altitude. Commonly found on hillsides and ridges, but also common on alluvial sites. Its habitat ranging from  sandy to ultrabasic soils. In the SFERA@UMS forest area, Eugenia grandis thrives extensively in regions dominated by Acacia, particularly on the lower slopes of the Kantalan Trail and at the hill slope of Darau restoration planting area near the Cancelori Trail. Mature trees typically range in diameter from 10cm to 25cm (dbh).

Distribution: Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Borneo.
